A Week of Outfits: Srishti Jain

“I’m not great about wearing aprons,” admits vegetarian chef, recipe developer, and author Srishti Jain. “I just wear an oversized T-shirt that I don’t mind getting dirty.” She’s a lifelong cook, but started baking as a pandemic hobby — which rapidly evolved into new career chapter. These days, Srishti is doing pastry pop-ups in Brooklyn, making pavlova for 100, and designing one-of-a-kind cakes. Here, she shares her schlepping shoes and the most-worn skirt in her wardrobe…
Skirt: Tyler McGillivary. T-shirt: Still Here. Earrings: Laura Lombardi and Faris. Bag: similar. Shoes: thrifted, similar.
“Over the years, I’ve incorporated more color and pattern into what was a mostly all-black wardrobe. Prints can be so much fun — I love the swans on this Tyler McGillivary skirt.”
“I’m a big schlepper — yesterday, I left the house at noon and didn’t return until almost midnight. I went to the gym and library, then had hot pot with friends, and after that, I went bowling. So, I need a roomy bag. I have an L.L.Bean tote embroidered with ‘Clam’s Mom,’ (Clam is my cat), as well as this woven bag that I bought on the street in Costa Brava because every woman there was carrying one.”
Top: Dissh, similar. Pants: Dissh. Bag: Paloma Wool.
“I’m an author and chef, but I also have a day job in tech, and the office is in Soho. At least once a day, I’ll stop someone walking by to say, ‘I love your bag’ or ‘Where did you get that coat?’ Even if it’s a vintage piece I won’t be able to track down, I feel inspired to combine my own pieces in a new way.”
Dress: Ilana Kohn, “bought before she closed her brand last fall. I will cherish it forever.” Pants: Dissh. Shoes: Puma.
“I’m a big fan of tailoring. I’m 5’1, so I started out with getting my pants hemmed. Then I tried out more tweaks, like having the straps taken in on a ribbed tank top so it fits me better. Little adjustments don’t cost much, but they make a big difference.”
“I’m all about adding something spiky, whether it’s the hoop earrings I wear all the time or these Puma ballet shoes. Fashion writer Mandy Lee described my shoe philosophy perfectly when she talked about loving a ‘freaky little shoe’ — and I’m looking for one that’s comfortable. When I wear loafers, I’ll add these incredible heel protectors so I can walk everywhere.”
Skirt: Miaou. Shirt: Mango. Shoes: Camper. Earrings: Laura Lombardi and Faris.
“This is my most-worn skirt. It reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw’s newspaper dress.”
Star ring: Dos Tres.
“I recently turned 30, and I’m trying to take better care of my clothes. I definitely learned the hard way that certain sweaters can’t go in the dryer. I just got a lint-removing tool and fabric shaver. I’m very excited.”
Top: vintage, several available on eBay. Shoes: Hoka. Bag: le-febour.
“This is what I wear when baking: an oversized T-shirt, hat, and comfy shoes. I was a classic clog person for a long time. I wore Gardenheir clogs, and I still love them, but now I wear my SUPER comfy Hoka Ora Primos even more.”
“I ‘borrowed’ this shirt from a friend. I wear it to work, sleep, and everything in between. T-shirts are the number-one thing I steal from my loved ones, because I want the most worn-in ones possible, and that’s the best way to find them! I’ve always raided my dad’s closet, and now, when I go home, he’ll leave out a stack of his old tees for me to go through. Nothing better.”
Thanks so much, Srishti!
P.S. Many more weeks of outfits, include a dietician who loves her garden and a bookshop owner who spends the day on her feet.
