Why Watching Barbie Was the Most Unexpected Confidence Boost! | by Grescanda Vernie Rapaella | Aug, 2025

Since I was a kid, I’ve been familiar with this pink icon as a beautiful girl who can do anything, like the slogan says, “She’s everything and he’s just Ken.” Barbie was never just a movie for me, nor just a doll. She’s my role model.
People often wonder where my confidence comes from, like how I can just dive into things without second-guessing. At first, I thought confidence just came naturally, like it appeared out of nowhere. But then I realized… It’s because of Barbie. Yes, Barbie!
In every movie, Barbie shows me what it means to truly trust yourself. Of course, there are moments when she doubts herself, but with the support of those around her and trust in her own heart, she regains her confidence. And it feels magic to me. Because every time Barbie trusts herself, she shows me that anything is possible, just like one of my favorite songs from the Barbie soundtrack, “Shooting Star,” says:
You can be anything you want,
if you believe in who you are,
You’ll light up the whole world,
You’re shining so bright…
Hearing that song takes me back to Barbie: Star Light Adventure (2016). Barbie faces a huge problem, her planet’s stars are disappearing, and at first, she doubts herself. But with her friends by her side and a spark of courage, she dares to act. And just like that, she lights up the galaxy again. Magic, right?
And maybe that’s where my confidence comes from. Watching Barbie solve problems, trust the good in every situation, and show love to everyone, even those who hurt her, like Raquelle, inspires me every time. Whenever I face something challenging, like finishing a final exam in my class, I remember Barbie as my motivation, because if she can do it, so can I!
Through Barbie, I’ve learned that we don’t need to be perfect to be great. Instead, it’s about believing in ourselves. Not waiting for the perfect moment, but taking action to make change happen.
So… when’s the last time you felt like a total Barbie and just went for it?
