Why I started writing on Medium as a Japanese woman learning English. | by MiBubbles🫧| Mizuho | Nov, 2025

Hello! I’m Mizuho, a Japanese woman living in Japan.
This is my first post on Medium, and I want to share why I decided to start writing here, even though English is not my first language. Honestly, I’m nervous. I know my English isn’t perfect. And I don’t have enough English expressions…
But at the same time, I feel excited because this is the first step of my new journey✨
I’ve been learning English for several years.
I studied abroad once, and that experience changed my life.
It opened my world, expanded my values, and helped me meet people who inspired me.
But after returning to Japan and starting a full-time job, I was busy, tired, and sometimes overwhelmed by work. I lost my enough free time and energy working on something i want to do on the weekends.
Recently, something changed again.
I decided to quit my current job.
I met my American boyfriend who also lives in Japan. We’ve been almost a year since we started dating.
I got opportunity to use English in my life again!!
My English skills, which had started to deteriorate, improved again. He encourages me, and talking with him reminds me of the part of myself that loves exploring, learning, and expressing.
Still, expressing myself in English is not easy.
I make mistakes especially in speaking.
Sometimes I can’t find the right words.
Sometimes my feelings get stuck between Japanese and English.
But that’s exactly why I came to Medium.
I wanted a place where I can write honestly, practice my English, and share my thoughts with people from different cultures. A place where mistakes are okay, and where I can grow little by little. Medium feels like that kind of place.
Here, I want to write about:
– my daily life in Japan
– my English-learning journey
– my relationship with my American boyfriend
– the emotions and struggles I go through as a Japanese woman
I don’t care making mistakes.
I just want to be honest.
I want to write, learn, think, and grow — slowly but consistently.
If you’re learning a language, living abroad, navigating cross-cultural relationships, or simply curious about life in Japan, I hope my writing can make you feel something, even just a little.
Thank you for reading my first post.
I’m excited to start this journey with you.
読んでくれてありがとう❤️
