Whispers In The Night
By Magdaline Mwangi
For a while, I kept dreaming about animals.
It wasn’t just once. It was almost every night for weeks. First, a snake — coiled and still. Then an owl, watching me from the shadows, its eyes deep and unreadable. Later came a lion. It didn’t roar or chase. It just stood there, unmoving, calm but powerful. As if it knew something I didn’t.
I brushed it off at first. A few weird dreams, I thought. But as they repeated, I got curious. Maybe even a little unsettled. So I did what anyone would — I started searching through the internet
“Snake in a dream?”
“Owl spiritual meaning?”
“Dreaming of a lion?”
I found words like transformation, intuition, hidden danger, strength, protection, rebirth. None of it felt complete. I read interpretations late into the night, but it was like trying to solve a riddle that kept changing its shape.
Still, something deep inside me whispered: Pay attention.
I didn’t tell anyone about the dreams. I kept them close. Quiet. Sacred, almost.
Then, a month later, I was laid off from work.
No warning. No buildup. Just like that, the door closed. I was left stunned — and somehow, not surprised.
Because somewhere between the snake, the owl, and the lion… something in me already knew.
That’s when I started remembering everything clearly. The stillness of the owl’s gaze. The quiet strength of the lion. The snake’s silent warning. The dreams weren’t random. They were preparing me for this ending. Or maybe, for a beginning I hadn’t yet imagined.
Now I don’t brush off my dreams. I listen to them. I sit with them. I write them down.
Because sometimes, your soul knows long before the world tells you.
