When You’re Good at Everything, But Nothing Feels Enough — My Digital Marketing & PR Journey (So Far) | by Gurleen Kaur | Jul, 2025

I’ve always found it funny how resumes make life look perfect. Neatly lined up job titles, achievements, percentages, and “strategic campaigns” — all bundled into bullet points. But behind every bullet point, there’s a story. And mine isn’t glamorous — it’s real, chaotic, and honestly… still in progress.
Let me introduce myself.
I’m Gurleen — someone who loves the creative mess of marketing and PR, but also feels stuck in this weird space where being “good at everything” feels like being seen as “specialist in nothing.”
This isn’t a story of “I made it.”
It’s a story of still figuring it out, navigating career doubts, and learning that the “messy middle” is also part of the journey.
The “Master of All, Yet…” Dilemma
In marketing and PR, they tell you to “specialize”. Be a performance marketer, or a social media strategist, or a PR consultant. But what if you’re the kind of person who enjoys doing it all? From writing catchy captions to running ads, crafting press releases to optimizing SEO tags — I love the creative chaos.
But sometimes, being a “jack of all trades” feels like being invisible in a world that rewards “niche experts.”
Reality Check: The Hustle Isn’t Always Glamorous
I’ve worked for brands where working overtime was considered loyalty and “learning opportunities” meant doing five roles at once — for the price of one. But these experiences taught me what no classroom could — resilience, adaptability, and how to turn a problem into a campaign idea on a Sunday night.
Why I’m Writing This
I’m not here to preach success stories. I’m here to share the in-between phase — where you’re still figuring it out, where LinkedIn says you’re doing great, but inside, you’re still searching for that “right” opportunity.
If you’ve ever felt like your skills are too “broad” for this hyper-niche world or that you’re working hard but the dots don’t seem to connect yet — this space is for you.
This is my first post here, but definitely not the last. I’ll be writing about:
Digital Marketing — beyond buzzwords
PR — the art of making people care
Career struggles — the honest version
And stories that are not “viral,” but are very real.
If you’re someone who’s also navigating this messy but exciting path, hit the follow button. Let’s grow, vent, and win — one post at a time.
