The Time I Almost Died — and What It Taught Me | by Cecee Writes | Nov, 2025

One careless second, one speeding car — and my life almost ended before it even began.
Up until this day, I sometimes look at myself in the mirror and remember that I wasn’t even meant to live. I remember the time I almost died — and it makes me deeply grateful to God for keeping me alive.
The first time I almost died was when I was 10 years old. I was sent on an errand — it was just me and my grandpa at home.
He asked me to get something from a nearby shop across the road.
Before crossing, I looked left, right, and left again, just like I was taught in school. I crossed successfully and got what I was sent to buy.
As I was about to cross back, I was in a hurry. I wasn’t comfortable with what I was wearing, and I was also eager to return to the game I’d been playing before I was sent out.
There was a car parked on my right side, blocking part of my view of the left. Still, I followed the usual road-crossing rule — looked left, right, and left again — and then started crossing.
In the process, a car suddenly appeared, speeding toward me. The moment I saw it, fear gripped me. I started running, but as the car got closer, I slipped and fell. The driver slammed the brakes, stopping right in front of me — just a few inches away.
I was terrified. Realizing how close I’d come to being hit, I quickly got up, ran off the road, and instinctively said “sorry” to the driver.
Now that I think about it, I’m still not sure — do you think I was supposed to apologize, or the driver?
Tell me in the comments; I’d love to know your thoughts.
That day taught me something — that life can change in seconds. It reminded me to slow down, to never be in such a hurry that I forget how fragile life really is. Every time I cross a road now, I remember that moment… and I thank God I’m still here.
