First and foremost, my name is Isaac Matias, I don’t mind any nicknames that are given to me, but I prefer it more if the nickname was related to my name. I am 18 years of age, and I am majoring in Business Administration. I was born in Santa Monica and grew up in various parts of LA but after 16 years I moved to Tucson, Arizona since my dad owned a restaurant named Teresa Mosaic Cafe. For my future career I plan on becoming a real estate agent, since my dad always pushed me towards that path.

I personally despise reading, I don’t like thinking nor actually reading so for the purpose of furthering my education, I only read when required to. That being said I do have a favorite book, The Diary of a Part Time Indian. I don’t always go out of my way to write anything, but only on one occasion have I written something not required for class, well actually it was 7 times. For one whole week I wrote a new poem every day. As I take this course, I hope that my writing can improve on persuading a reader.

As for things that I do in my free time, I am big on soccer. I love to play it, watch, and everything in between. I’ve played for as long as I can remember and have gone so far as to play semi-professional in Arizona. I also love to read people’s opinions on soccer teams on social media. As for other physical activities, I love to go swimming, whether on the beach or in the pool. Being in the water is one of my favorite activities to do at any time of the year. The beach I grew with, in LA was Dockweiler State Beach. I played soccer, swam, and did much more with friends there. I meet loads of new people when I play soccer. I can be playing pickup soccer late at night, or joining a soccer club, meeting and interacting with people who come to me from soccer. A lot, if not all of my hometown friends all play and watch soccer.

When it comes to socialization, I don’t particularly think that talk is my strong point, but it is definitely something that I am weak at. If put in a setting where nobody knows anyone, I tend to thrive. But being on my own is something that I had come to learn and love. I have always loved to be around people, and still do, but in my 2 years living in Tucson, Arizona, I had to rebuild my whole social life. So, until I did rebuild my social life, I had to learn to love being alone. This was a big turning point for my perspective on life itself, I had realized everything I had in LA was all something that I took for granted and was something that vanished quickly. But it put me in a better predicament as the people I did trust and talk to in these times, I knew were people that I could count on. These people are my friends.

After those two tough years in Arizona, I make a very respectable friend group. Friends from soccer and friends from school. I then decided not to stay in Arizona for school and ultimately chose to go to SDSU and I wanted to be physically closer to my friends that are still in LA. I have made a good assortment of friends my first few days here and I love it so far and can’t wait for the years to come.
