The Message that led me to the Red String Theory | by Anonymously yours | Jul, 2025

My younger sibling, had an assignment from their tuition teacher (let’s call my sibling A and the tuition teacher B). The instructions were simple. Complete the work and submit it in pdf format on Whatsapp. But A being A, totally forgot. The deadline was in the morning but by the time they remembered, it was already evening. Mom wasn’t home and A didn’t have a personal phone. With no other option, A asked me to send the pdf from my number. I agreed and sent it to B. No big deal.
That one small act somehow turned into something… odd.
Even though B knew i was A’s sibling, they kept sending notes, pdf’s and class updates directly to my number. I didn’t think much of it first. I assumed maybe it was just convenient for them now.
Then one day, while i was casually checking my phone, i noticed a message from B. It was a quote. A simple, thoughtful quote about something called the Red String Theory.
I paused. “Red string… what?”
I stared at the message, confused and slightly weirded out. Why would B send me this? I had no clue what it meant and just left it on seen. Then, after almost five hours, the message was suddenly deleted. A new one popped up — “I’m sorry, I had sent this by mistake.”
I mean… really? It sat there in the chat for five hours, and now suddenly it’s a mistake? I don’t know, maybe it really was accidental. But you know when something just doesn’t sit right with you? That was me. Still, i didn’t reply. I just left it there. But that term — Red String Theory — kept bugging my mind, an itch i couldn’t ignore. So i did what anyone curious would do. I read about it.
So, what is the Red String Theory?
The Red String Theory, also known as the Red Thread of Fate, is a beautiful belief from East Asian culture. It says that an invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place or circumstances. The string might stretch or tangle but it will never break. Imagine, somewhere in this world there’s someone you’re meant to meet. Someone tied to you by fate, long before you even existed. You may meet them tomorrow or twenty years from now, but the connection was always there. And it’s not always romantic. Your red string could be tied to a friend, a mentor or a companion. Someone who changes your life. Someone you were meant to cross paths with.
Isn’t it comforting to think that in this messy, unpredictable world, there’s someone out there meant for you? I think we all deserve that kind of connection—our own red string.
Reading about it gave me chills. There was something so quietly magical about the idea, like it had been sitting somewhere deep inside me just waiting to be named. It was comforting in a strange, almost emotional way.
Because, to be honest, sometimes we get tired.
Tired of searching for our people.
Tired of waiting for the right moment, the right connection.
Tired of wondering if the universe even has a plan for us.
But learning about this theory made me rethink. Maybe we don’t need to chase so hard. Maybe the ones meant for us are already finding their way. The thread is working quietly, gently pulling us closer. Fate isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s just soft. And maybe… that’s enough.
And as for me? I’m still not entirely sure why B sent that quote. But one day, A casually mentioned that B keeps asking about me. Maybe they saw me during the tuition classes at home. Maybe it was just curiosity. I don’t know. I’ll let you, the reader, guess. Now I’m curious to know what you think. hahaha…
