Swimming Saved My Soul — Not My Life | by Lynn | Jul, 2025

You might wonder why swimming is my favorite sport. Well, I can answer that in one sentence:
It saved me from dying.
Now, when I say “dying,” I don’t mean suicide. I mean something deeper. I had been dead inside for a long time — I just didn’t know it yet.
Then one day, I saw the 2024 Olympic swimming competitions on TV. That moment changed everything. I looked at the screen and asked myself,
“Why am I not there?”
The elegance, the power, and the freedom of the swimmers gave me a feeling I had never experienced before. A voice inside me whispered:
“You should be there. You belong in the water. You deserve to swim free.”
And that’s how swimming became the spark that brought me back to life.
There are many styles in swimming, but the four main ones are freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. My favorites are freestyle and butterfly — they make me feel powerful and alive.
When I joined my first swimming class, my coach — Ms. Alizadeh, who later became one of the biggest inspirations in my life — looked at me and said,
“You are my most talented student, and I believe you will become one of the best swimmers.”
And she was right. I flew across the water like a rocket, from one end of the 50-meter pool to the other, while she watched me proudly. Her look of admiration gave me a deep sense of purpose.
Now I train every day with one goal in mind:
The Olympics.
But swimming didn’t just change my body — it changed my soul.
I’ve become calmer, less angry, kinder, and smarter.
Instead of reacting with rage, I try to solve problems.
Instead of sitting in front of the TV all day, I’ve built a strong, athletic body.
Isn’t that amazing?
