“My Journey of Building a Business in the Modern Era” | by Fadlurrahman Andino fachry | Sep, 2025

The First Step
When I first thought about starting a business, I didn’t have much. Not much capital, not much experience, and not much confidence. But what I did have was curiosity — and the belief that in today’s world, you don’t need to be the biggest player to make an impact.
I realized early on that the modern era is different. Business today doesn’t start with renting a shop or printing flyers. It starts with a smartphone, an internet connection, and the courage to try.
⸻
Discovering the Power of Digital
At first, I tried selling small things online. It felt simple, almost like a game: post a product photo, wait for likes, hope for messages from interested buyers. Some days, nothing happened. Other days, I’d get three or four orders, and that gave me the energy to keep going.
What amazed me most was how technology leveled the playing field. I wasn’t competing with just the people in my neighborhood — I was competing with businesses across the country, even across the world. Yet somehow, I still had a chance. That chance came from understanding creativity and storytelling.
⸻
Lessons From Failure
Not everything worked. I remember running a small ad campaign that completely failed — money gone, zero sales. I felt frustrated, even embarrassed. But that’s the reality of modern business: you fail fast, you learn fast.
Each mistake became a lesson:
• Poor photos won’t sell.
• Copy-pasting someone else’s caption won’t connect with people.
• Ignoring customer feedback means losing trust.
Every failure pushed me to improve.
⸻
What Really Matters
I learned that modern consumers don’t just buy a product — they buy a story. They want to know who you are, what you stand for, and why you’re different. That’s when I started sharing more than just items for sale. I began telling the story behind them, sharing pieces of myself, and letting people see the human side of my brand.
Slowly, I built not just a customer base, but a community. People who supported me, not only because of what I sold, but because of what I represented: effort, creativity, and authenticity.
⸻
Looking Ahead
I don’t know where this journey will take me. Maybe my small business will grow into something bigger, or maybe it will evolve into something entirely new. But one thing I do know: building a business in the modern era isn’t about being perfect from the start. It’s about being willing to try, to adapt, and to keep moving forward.
For me, this is just the beginning. I want to keep learning, experimenting, and creating value — not just for myself, but for the people who believe in what I do. Because at the end of the day, business is not just about profit. It’s about connection, trust, and the courage to dream.
