My First Time Seeing an Actual Rock — Zuma Rock🇳🇬
The first time I saw an actual rock…
Lol 😂
I know it might sound strange.
I’ve only been to one state in Nigeria — Lagos.
As a child, I was always interested in seeing new places, but I never left my state until I turned 15, when I finally went to Lagos.
I was really curious about seeing Zuma Rock and other massive natural stone formations in Nigeria.
But like I said, I had never traveled much.
I used to tell people that traveling was my hobby 😭😂 — even though I hardly ever left my house.
Why? Let’s leave that story for another day.
So, the first time I saw a real rock was in January 2025.
NYSC posted me to Niger State.
Lol 😂
Traveling from my state to Niger took about two days by bus.
And if you’re going from Southern Nigeria to Niger State, you’ll definitely pass through Abuja.
On January 22, 2025, I saw Zuma Rock.
I was just passing through Abuja on my way to Niger when it appeared.
Zuma rock is located in Madalla,Niger state just outside Abuja, you can see it while driving from Abuja — it practically sneaks up on you.
The rock is hugeee.
At the sight of it, I was both scared and excited —
Excited because I was finally seeing something I’d only read about in books or seen in videos.
Scared because the closer our car got, the more it felt like the rock would either swallow us or fall on us 😭😂
You can call me a village girl, but you wouldn’t blame me if you saw that rock too! It was big — or should I say, bigger.
In fact, I developed a phobia that day 🤣
I had megalophobia 😩
(Megalophobia is the fear of huge objects.)
The moment I saw that rock, my Nigerian fear of strange, powerful things kicked in.
In my head I was like, “What if this rock just breaks and falls on our vehicle right now?” 🥲🤣
My friends were all happy and excited, taking pictures and videos.
I took mine too — but with fear still running through my mind.
It was an experience I would honestly love to have again. ☺️
