It’s often the small things…. Paper cut wounds are the worst | by Omar Ahamed | Jul, 2025

The kind of impact something small can make is pretty big.
Like they say, papercut wounds are the worst.
And it just happened the other day. On my right ring finger, while opening a can of Tuna.
I was excited to cook up a tuna salad for lunch to hit that protein goal. Tuna is a pretty great protein option. It’s got like 15g+ protein per 100 g.
Turns out, life said, no more protein goal for the next 10 days.
I knew that if I wasn’t careful, I would cut my finger, but even though I was careful, it did end up slashing into my ring finger a bit deep.
For a few seconds, I watched blood sputtering out. Non-stop. Then I tried to stop it by pressing tissue after tissue on the wound. It still wouldn’t stop.
Eventually, managed to stop the bleeding and get it bandaged by my mother.
She put an onion clove on the wound to make it heal fast. I think it also works as an antibiotic.
And anyway, since I was going to travel in the next few days and also the wound was from a metal, I had to go to the doctor and see if I needed a TT shot.
The doctor asked me to show the wound and immediately said it needs to be stitched.
Hadn’t been stitched anywhere before. I was nervous but tried to remain calm.
The procedure was fairly simple.
Inject an anesthetic into my finger, three times, because it wasn’t fully effective. Apparently, anasthetics are less effective on fingers.
A weird, bursting sensation fills the finger before I start feeling the numbness.
Doc started suturing. I could still feel the slight prickling feeling.
Anasthesia had not completely worked. But the pain was manageable.
Three stitches in total.
Got done in about 15 minutes.
Even though the wound is kind of small, the impact it made was not small at all.
No more workouts until it heals. Can’t wash my right hand. Had to be careful while eating so the food doesn’t get to the bandage.
