HOW I STARTED MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL (FROM ZERO TO UPLOAD) | by teebazharoon | Aug, 2025
As a beginner I did not have a fancy camera or an aesthetic background. But I always wants to talk it out. All the things I know. But I did not have enough confidence. And on one fine I uploaded my first video.
I wanted my start my Youtube channel as a side hustle. As I am a student of INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS I already had my niche sorted. I wanted to educate people about international politics. That may sound a bit boring. But trust me for the people interested in gaining knowledge about the classical theories of IR, Major Historical events that shape todays world. My Channel would be a gem.
I was thinking ONE DAY I will start making videos and that ONE DAY came sooner than I expected.in this blog post I will be sharing my story of how I started my youtube channel, the mistakes I made which you should not and how I kept going.
FINDING MY NICHE:
Finding a niche is something people are very confused about. We as creators want our videos to be seen and have millions of views. And because of this we are very conscious on selecting the topics of a category which would be trending. But if you start something in which you are not interested yourself. You will eventually feel trapped instead you should never think WHAT PEOPLE WOULD WANT TO WATCH you should discover WHAT YOU WANT TO MAKE. Because if you’ll feel good and stay interested while making the video. People will eventually enjoy it.
First mistake: For me I started with making book reviews to look trending and aesthetic but I did not enjoy it at all. So I just made 3 to 4 videos and then left. This disinterest led to inconsistency and there are only 3 things you need to grow your youtube channel and that are 1.CONSISTENCY 2.CONSISTENCY and 3.CONSISTENCY.
I made another video about politics and this time I actually enjoyed making it. And you know what it got 21 views yeah yeah you people. I know 21 is not that much but for a beginner a first timer it was something. That particular video got me my first comment and that was GOOD WORK. That one comment got me I knew I had to keep myself entertained first to make entertaining yet educational videos which is the hardest.
I discovered that POLITICS is my thing and I was also interested in international history so I found my NICHE its was EDUCATIONAL content more specifically INTERNATIONAL CONFLICT which is the name of my channel too.
Hence, IF you are just starting you do not have to meet the standard of people or look aesthetically put together. YOU just have to find out what you are good at and what you love. TRUST ME People will love it.
SETUP
As I was going to make educational content for which I didn’t need any fancy camera Thank GOD. All I needed was my phone to record which I had and I used to make slides from my laptop through which I am writing right now. Review from my friends and family was you must add pictures related to what you are saying but If I would do that it would take forever to edit the video. And I didn’t have enough time to do as a student. So I knew educational content is seen by boring people so if it looks a bit boring it will be fine.
MY FIRST VIDEO
After all that niche finding stuff the first video I made was on the topic of INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS how they work how they provide a platform for states to resolve their conflicts peacefully through dialogue and diplomacy and what are the key organizations and what their impact blah blah blah I know you don’t wanna know about that.
Second mistake: too long videos : that on international organizations video was 1 hour long in raw form and it took me days to edit it and it eventually became 18 minutes. I got my lesson never ever make too long videos it will drain you plus in todays world people have very short attention span as everything is quickly available so they don’t wanna watch long videos. S o I started making 2 to 3 minute video s which are working right now.
ENDING NOTE
I’m still struggling to upload a video every day sometimes I’m right on the borderline of missing a day. There are only 2 to 4 views on videos on average But before you judge its just day 17 today of daily videos. These days are tough which is why I am documenting this because I know someday everything will fall into place and I don’t want to forget this feeling. If no body would read this I will come back and read this after 2 years. But if you are reading it till here you can suggest me anything that you think would help me.
