Fragrance holds memories.. Yes they do.! | by Sudhanva S Kashyap | Oct, 2025

Fragrance holds memories.
Yes, you read that right, they do..!
It was in the evening at my village, I was wandering around the plants in the home searching for bugs to photograph.
Meanwhile I just touched a random plant, tried to pluck its leaf. It had a mix of sweet and grassey fragrance, as soon as it entered my nostrils, my brain stopped all the work. I was zoned out.!
Suddenly the situation was like a rain cloud that appeared in peak summer and shovered gently. My brain changed the memory card and my childhood popped up.
The scene was of an usual Saturday evening of 2015. I was at my neighbour’s home. We were 7 to 8 kids playing a game called ‘The dog and the bone’. We were a bit tired enjoying but continuously laughing. Suddenly the neighbour aunty comes out with a cover full of groundnuts. Everybody sat making a circle sharing nuts having fun. We were playing basket nut where mouth was the basket and we have throw to nut fram afar to the other’s mouth.
We boys were very much carzy towords vehicles and bykes. So we held a stick in both the hands as if we heald a byke stearing and we named it our favourite byke. Myne was R15. Then we used to wander mimiking the engine sounds pretending making stunts by rotating the stick.
As all the kids were paying guest there, the household works were shared. Instead of taking the work as stress, we used to make it more fun and exciting. When it was time to mend garden we used to collect the waste plants and put it on a fertilizer bag. One held front two corners and the other one held the back corners. We imagined that as a truck and used to go and pour it in the same way as the reals truck lifts its container.
And that garden had the plant that became the reason to start this story.
That fragrance which manipulated my brain. Yes it was a Basil plant.
Childhood, how sweet it was.. No plans, no tension, no stress, no anxiety, no worries of carrier, no worries of placements, no confusions of science or commerce, no chaos of B.tech or MBBS.
Just eat, sleep, play wander, dream, laugh, and have fun. Thats it.
So if you have reading this line, I believe you have enjoyed the story. So yes this was all about the fragrance that held some beautiful memories.
Thanks for that plant and fragrance. See you in the next one.
