Finding My Voice: My Journey to Improve Communication and Confidence at Work | by Bansari Prajapati | Oct, 2025

We often hear that “communication is key,” but for a long time, I didn’t fully realize how true that was – until I found myself struggling to express my thoughts in moments that mattered most.
Recently, I had a client meeting where I couldn’t speak up the way I wanted to. My mind was full of ideas and observations, but when it came time to share them, hesitation took over. Even during regular reporting meetings, I often notice that I respond slowly, trying to find the right words. It’s not that I lack knowledge – it’s that my confidence fades when I need it most.
That moment made me pause and reflect deeply: Why do I hold back when I know I can contribute more?

The Real Reason Behind Weak Communication
For me, the root cause wasn’t language – it was lack of confidence. I realized that communication isn’t only about speaking fluently; it’s about trusting yourself enough to be heard.
When we doubt ourselves, our voice becomes smaller. When we fear judgment, our ideas stay hidden.
Confidence and communication go hand in hand. You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can’t communicate them clearly and calmly, they often lose their impact.

Why Strong Communication Matters in a Professional World
In today’s workplace, good communication is not just a “soft skill” – it’s a career skill. It affects how you present your ideas, connect with clients, and collaborate with your team.
Clear communication builds credibility. It helps you earn trust, take ownership, and lead effectively.
Whether it’s during client calls, internal meetings, or performance reviews – your voice reflects your confidence, clarity, and professionalism.
I’ve learned that even the smartest ideas can go unnoticed if they’re not expressed with confidence. On the other hand, even simple points, when communicated clearly, can create a strong impression.

How I’m Learning to Communicate Better
After realizing my struggle, I decided to make consistent, small efforts to strengthen my communication and confidence. Here’s what has been helping me:
- Practicing Daily
Every morning, I spend a few minutes reading aloud articles or writing short thoughts about my work. This helps me get comfortable with my tone and pace.
2. Preparing Before Meetings
I now jot down two or three key points I want to share before every meeting. It gives me direction and helps me speak up at the right time.
3. Building Confidence Gradually
Instead of pushing myself to speak perfectly, I focus on speaking clearly. Every small contribution counts – and with each one, my confidence grows a little more.
4. Reflecting Daily
At the end of the day, I think about one moment where I could’ve spoken more confidently – and how I’ll handle it better next time.
⸻
The Journey Ahead
Improving communication isn’t an overnight transformation – it’s a process of self-belief and practice. I’ve realized that confidence doesn’t come from being perfect; it comes from showing up consistently, learning from every interaction, and choosing to try again.
My goal now is simple:
To make my voice reflect the ideas and passion I already have within me.
Every meeting, every conversation, is another chance to grow – and I’m learning to take it. 🌼
