Finally Stopped Avoiding Hiring Events | by Hypsterical | Oct, 2025

Terrible idea coming off a streak of bouncing around employment-wise. Competition from others in need of a job wasn’t the main issue. That’s where the confusion sets in. It seems as if the entire place had shut down, and this event was the center of attention. They titled it “Hiring Day,” as if it were some sort of sporting event. Not much information was provided about what exactly we’d be getting hired for, but I dove in anyway. I woke up on time, and since they didn’t seem to prepare, neither did I.
It was organized — just a simple sign-in and information sharing, which is a given. The title was a bit intimidating; this was a pretty popular retail location in the pit of a mall, so I expected a formal greeting. I thought most people that showed up would be grouped together, and we’d walk through or tour the store. I winged it; I didn’t do the research beforehand but still felt comfortable enough to say it was a decent interview on my end. The job itself was not the main focus — that’s the only box I checked off: the ability to be an employee.
“I refuse to be a sore loser so I won’t Mention where just giving a premonition of the experience. I understand why these events never caught my attention” -Isaiah
Now I see that I’m approaching the job force the wrong way. I was turned down for not enough experience, but that’s only what they could see on paper. How would I prove my ability to sell? I missed the memo: job fairs or career events are not for professional thinkers. If I could restart the day, I would’ve added more to my resume or just wouldn’t have given it to them at all. Patience isn’t the way to go anymore — I realize that they weren’t looking for someone to fill the position, but someone they could read and mold. Forget everything you know.
I sat for a bit before attending the interview, just to adjust to the air in the building. The nervousness wasn’t at the level it should’ve been. What exactly are they searching for during hiring day events? I have to re-approach my entire way of walking into an interview. It isn’t the company; it’s the needs of the team itself and them not knowing how to get it. Things change experience is important but why are we facing each other if that was the only draw back.
