A small accident reminded me how easily lives can change on the road | by DarsanaT2 | Nov, 2025

We often hear why we should be careful and mindful. Today I experienced it first-hand.

My husband and I were on our bike; he was riding, and I was seated at the back. Traffic was slow but moving steadily, and we were riding along the left side of the road. Suddenly, a young guy pulled his bike out from a raised roadside. His bike wasn’t even switched on, but he wasn’t paying attention. He rolled backwards straight into me.

He noticed us and tried to stop, but because of the slope, he couldn’t. There wasn’t enough time for us to stop either. Even without the engine running, the impact was strong enough that the metal part of his bike hit just below my knee.

I feel lucky the injury wasn’t too severe. It gives me chills when I think that there are many instances where such events made someone fall down right under the tires of the bigger vehicle and met with instant death.

I keep thinking about how different life could have turned in just a second. If the injury had been severe, or worse, how many lives would have been shaken because of that one moment. I think of my 3-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son, who still sleep beside me every night. I think of my husband, who is not on a full-time role and does not have a regular income, and how much we’re planning and building together because I have taken up the task of finding steady income. We have a full-time made who has been with us for almost 6 years and her family who depends on her income. At work, I know I would be replaced in a few weeks… but for my family, for my parents, the impact wouldn’t fade so quickly. These thoughts alone are enough to give me chills.

I promised myself that I will be more careful in the future, trying my best not to cause difficulties for other people. If you have read so far, I hope you will be more careful too.

If my experience resonated with you, feel free to highlight, share, or follow me.
