What’s the story behind your name?

My name is Ammu — Well, not exactly — that’s not the name the world knows me by, but I chose to go with Ammu here. Why?

Because Ammu is what my parents call me lovingly, it’s a common pet name from the part of the world I am from. I don’t think it has a meaning on its own but if you read it backwards, “Umma” means “Kiss ” in my mother tongue. Now, that’s your clue to figure out where I’m from. Let’s test your language skills. Drop your guesses in the comments and let’s see who gets it right.😉

I chose not to go with my real name because a younger me was very fascinated with authors who wrote under pseudonyms or pen names like Mark Twain or Robert Galbraith.

Even though they had different reasons, for me, I just like to pretend half mysterious… only half because after all you can see my picture.”

What would it really be like to be your friend?

If you were my friend, you could expect me to talk about absolutely anything and everything for hours.

You could call me any time, even at 2 AM in the morning (I am in deep sleep then, according to my Fitbit), and I would still be excited to listen and talk to you, because friends are my lifeline.

My emotions are pretty big too. Apparently, according to my friends, I laugh the loudest for the lamest jokes and cry the hardest for even slightly emotional movie scenes.

When you’re feeling low, what do you do

When I feel low, I just try to divert my attention. Sometimes it could be by watching series, movies, be it any language, gaming, reading a book, or even drawing(Not an artist, but still I draw because why not).

But one thing that definitely works is humor, no matter how low I feel, a funny movie, a silly joke, or a quirky article can instantly lift my mood.

If you could change one thing about your past self, what would it be and why?

If I could go back, I’d erase the part of me that was scared of what people might think. I wish I had the confidence back then that I have today to speak up whenever something didn’t feel right to me, no matter how small or big they were.

What should new readers expect from your stories? What themes or tones do you keep returning to?

Like I said before, I talk about anything and everything, so I see it reflected in my writing also. I’ve seen a lot of Medium articles saying you need to find a niche, figure out what works, and stick to it. But for now, my head is full of thoughts which wouldn’t fit under any one niche.
So I’m hoping I still find readers who’ll enjoy the variety, whether it’s personal experiences or random stories in my voice. Excited to see where this journey takes me.

How has your experience with Quirky Rants been so far?

I am still new to writing and to Quirky Rants, but I already feel this is one of those publications where writers actually read each other’s work.

Also, to be honest, I was fed up with Medium’s feed being flooded with “how to make money” articles despite actively trying to change the algorithm (Maybe Medium thinks I am broke and is trying to help😅).

Then I found Quirky Rants, and I genuinely enjoy the stories here. I feel you have got it all, heartfelt, humorous, quirky, and more.

So Keep churning great content and I’ll be here reading and writing more along the way.🥂

Thank you for this prompt.

Until then
